PTO Committee Descriptions

The Oak PTO has many committees that work to enhance our students learning, fundraise and build community. Descriptions of the committees are listed below:

Artsonia – 2 Chairs

This committee will work in conjunction with the art teacher to display children’s artwork on the Artsonia website. Parents may review their children’s art and purchase items deliver at their discretion.

Assemblies – 1 Chair

This is the committee that works with the Principal to source assemblies and possible field trips that enrich our children’s educational or social and emotional learning. You will attend a showcase in the fall and bring your thoughts and ideas back to the school for consideration.

Birthday Lunches – 2 Chairs

This committee plans and executes once a month birthday lunches with the Principal for children whose birthdays fall in that month.

Blah Buster – 2 Chairs, 10 Committee members, general volunteers

This committee organizes and facilitates Family Fun Night, a mid winter annual event that includes games, raffles, a DJ and Dinner.

Book Fair – 2 Chairs, 5 Committee members, general volunteers

The Committee helps plan and execute a weeklong Book Fair held in December in conjunction with MRC director. Proceeds benefit the Oak MRC.

Chess Club – 1 Chair, 2 Committee members

Chess Club is open to all Oak students. Meetings are after school on Wednesdays starting at the end of September and are run by professional chess masters. Parent volunteers are needed to supervise the meetings.

Co-Room Parents (Grades K-5)

Plan on attending the monthly PTO general meetings held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 9:30am (liaison to teacher/class).

Community Readers – 1 Chair

This committee will reach out to community members and Oak School relatives to set up reading to the children in their classrooms. A “welcome” coffee/breakfast is held at the beginning of the year, which the chairperson plans and executes.

Community Partners– 2 Chairs

Organize Shop and Share Days with selected vendors and monitor reward programs. Proceeds from sales benefit the Oak PTO.

Directory – 2 Chairs

This committee prepares an annual school directory that includes class lists, family contact information and basic school information for the benefit of Oak families. Volunteers help gather information, input, print and distribute the directory in the fall.

Family Connections

Will Plan and execute a Daughters’ Dance event, a Sons’ Dance event and an Oak parent night. Dates TBD.

Field Day – 2 Chairs, 10 Committee members, general volunteers

This committee plans Field Day, an end of the year, out door, school-wide game day that takes place at the end of the school year.

Fifth Grade Events – 2 Chairs, 10 Committee members

This committee will identify, plan and execute special events for the Oak fifth grade students. These events may include the family picnic, service projects, and class gift.

Friends of the Library – 1 Chair, general volunteers

This committee will work directly with the MRC Director to provide needed assistance in the MRC and act as a liaison between parents, teachers and the PTO.

Holiday Market– 2 Chairs, general volunteers

This Committee will plan and execute a Holiday market in December for students to purchase gifts for family members.

Hootiegram Editor (s)– 2 Editors

These people are responsible for the generation of Oak School’s weekly newsletter.

International Festival – 2 Chairs, 5 Committee members

This committee works with the On The Move Committee to announce a country at Walk To School Day in October that Hootie will visit during International Week. The committee creates a series of activities culminating in an assembly for the children enriching their knowledge of that country and its culture.

Kids Care Club -2-4 Chairs

Work with students (Grades 3-5) who will participate in service projects and act as leaders for various Oak School activities.  *Volunteers will be recruited throughout the school year as needed.

Lunch-In – 2-3 Chairs, general volunteers

Plan, coordinate and execute monthly hot lunches for the students. Volunteers are needed for distribution, monitoring and clean up of lunch during the designated lunch hour.

Oak Grows– 3 Chairs

This committee will focus on Oak core values, recognize and reward positive student behavior, and will organize, plan, and execute a school-wide community service day (spring date TBD)

Office Helpers – 1 Chair, general volunteers

Volunteers work in the school office to help with miscellaneous jobs for the school secretary and teachers. Volunteer time can be flexible and is scheduled weekly.

On the Move  – 2 Chairs, 3rd grade parent volunteers

This committee is responsible for orchestrating the Bike Rodeo and Walk to School Day. The Bike Rodeo is held in September for 3rd grade students and new Oak students in 3-5th grade to educate the children on bike safety and responsible bike riding. National Walk to School day is held in October and is the kick-off of the International Festival Committee’s chosen country and Hootie’s send-off.

Publicity – 2 Chairs

Communicate and keep local newspapers aware of Oak School happenings and ensure their presence at important events.

Science Dads – 1 Chair

This committee of Oak Dads develops a science demo day full of exciting science activities designed to inspire the children and develop their interest in science.

Science Fair – 2 Chairs

This committee organizes and runs the school science fair.

School Supplies – 2 Chairs

This Committee organizes, orders (late February and March) and delivers school supplies to classrooms (August).

Staff Appreciation – 2 Chairs

This committee plans and executes events throughout the school year, including a Welcome Back Staff Breakfast, a Teacher’s Holiday Lunch, Teacher Appreciation Week in May, Principal Appreciation Day and an end-of-the-year lunch.

Student Enrichment– 1 Chair

Organize student enrichment programs and clubs throughout the year.

Spirit Wear – 3 Chairs

This committee orders the Oak School spirit wear for the school year. Preparations begin in July working with a clothing supplier. A pep assembly in the fall kicks off the sale of new Oak gear.

Yearbook – 1 Chair

This committee works with the yearbook staff to take pictures of various Oak events throughout the school year for inclusion in the yearbook. Time commitment for this committee is flexible.

Website Coordinator – 1 Editor

This person manages the Oak PTO website content.

Welcome & Social – 2 Chairs, 5 Committee members, general volunteers

This committee organizes a Welcome Coffee on the 1st day of school, a Kindergarten Parent/Child Picnic, a ‘New to Oak’ Parent Mixer, and a Parent Social which takes place in early Fall.

Grades 1-5 - 8:30 am - 3:05 pm (lunch 11:25-12:15)
