Unity Week: October 20 - 24

10/18/2025 1:12 pm

About Unity Day:

Unity Day, started by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center in October 2011, is the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month. This is a day when we can come together to send a visible message of building commUNITY through kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. The call to action is simple: wear and share the color orange. This vibrant statement becomes a conversation starter, showing support for students who have been bullied and for bullying prevention.

Next week, we will be celebrating Unity Week at Oak Elementary with the theme “Oak Owls Stand Together.” This special week is dedicated to teaching kindness, empathy, friendship, and the importance of standing up against bullying.

Each day, students will take part in a meaningful classroom activity that encourages unity and respect for others. These activities are age-appropriate and designed to help our students better understand the power of their words and actions.

🟣 Monday – Friendship Bracelets

Students will create bracelets using different colored beads. Each bead represents a quality of a good friend, such as kindness, sharing, or using a friendly voice.

🟧 Tuesday – Unity Paper Chain

Each student will write a kind message on a paper link. All classes will connect their links to form one long school chain to show we are stronger together.

🟠 Wednesday – Wear Orange & Kind Notes

Students are encouraged to wear orange for National Unity Day. In class, students will write or draw an encouraging message to a classmate.

🟡 Thursday – Giant Unity Puzzle

Each class will decorate a large puzzle piece with their names and positive words. During an in-school gathering, classes will combine puzzle pieces to form one united message.

❤️ Friday – Crinkle Heart Lesson

Students will reflect on how words can leave lasting marks. They will write something that once hurt them on a paper heart, crumple it, and see that even when smoothed, the marks remain—teaching empathy and compassion.

We will also have a culminating assembly on October 28th, led by Imagination Theater once again this year. This year’s presentation is titled Someone Else’s Shoes, and the underlying message is about empathy. K-2 will be paired together for a 45-minute presentation, followed by grades 3-5. This will allow the messaging to be most appropriate for the varying ages across the grade levels. Click here for more information about the presentation and Imagination Theater.

We thank you for supporting our goal of creating a safe, caring, and inclusive school community. Together, we stand as one.
